What is the difference between a 'drum cartridge' and a 'toner cartridge' and how do they work?

I am considering changing from inkjet to mono laser as I am fed up with having to clean the heads and if one fails, the printer won't work. I'm researching the consumables to go with a laser and am trying to understand how they work in comparison with an iinkjet and also the possible benefits. Any answers much appreciated.What is the difference between a 'drum cartridge' and a 'toner cartridge' and how do they work?
I will personally recommend you to use a laserjet printer if your printing usuage is very high. A small HP laserjet printer can print as much 2500 page and the cartridge cost about S$200%26lt;

If let say your usuage is ery low, one cartridge can last you for a year!!!

So when purchase a printer, look out for the cost for the cartridge and the function of the printer as some of the laserjet printer are either networking or duplex( can prin double page)

Oh ya, by the way the function for the 'drum cartridge' is to transmit image and it can last about 3-4 round of usage. hmmm. to save the trouble, it would be better to buy a Laserjet printer that use only Toner Cartridge as it will be much more better choice for you.

Last but not least, Do remember a printer work just like a car, they need regular servcing to prolong their shelf-life!!!

hmmm... hope this information do help you!!!

Thank you, this has been very helpful, as has the answer by smedrik. Report Abuse

A drum unit collects waste from the toner.

A toner is the unit that actually contains the ';ink'; for printing.

A drum unit should last as long as it takes you to use 3-4 toners.
