What is the purpose of using a skin toner?

i recently purahased Ponds Cool, Calma and Perfected Pore shrinking gel toner. however i don't really know why i have to use it.

has anyone used this product? how does it work on combination skin and if i use it every time i wash my face will it be harmful to my skin? What is the purpose of using a skin toner?
Toner removes any makeup or dirt a cleanser may have missed. It also closes your pores and prepares your face for a moisturizer and then makeup. Keeping your pores closed will minimize blackheads and reduces acne breakouts. Witch Hazel is used in most toners and is a highly recommended base by most beauty consultants who praise it for being natural or botanical. Witch Hazel can also be used alone for those who have sensitive skin. It generally cost between $.50 -$1.00.What is the purpose of using a skin toner?
thanks for the info everyone Report Abuse

Well, if you use it after you've cleansed, it can help remove any makeup you missed, it also helps to gently tighten pores, and, most importantly, balances the pH of your skin and removes all oil
its like an astringent, you sue it after you cleanser and exfoliate to remove anything you missed(oil, dirt, makeup, cleanser). it shouldn't be harmful to your skin but test it anyway.
It closes your pores! When pores are open they can get dirt in them etc which can cause spots and skin imperfections.

You use it after cleansing/washing your face and before moisturiser.
